Haircare 101

Hair is a body part that some people might not take care of. And for that, just like any other body part, if you do not take care of it then it will start to get dry or crisp. To prevent that from happening, you should start taking care of it, after all having healthy hair means you are taking good care of yourself as well. If you are a beginner in this department, it can get stressful to know which product works best for your hair and what is that proper order on how to use products on your hair. But no need to worry because this post will give you a boost on how to take care of your hair. Healthy hair does not get easier than this! These unique hair care tips will win you over and your haircare regime will never be the same.

The first step in hair-care is your diet and the two most important things in your diet are iron and protein. The hair cells are the fastest growing cells in the body but they are also the first ones to be affected you do not eat right or suffer with deficiencies because they are not required for survival. Try and include iron-rich foods like leafy vegetables, fish, pumpkin seeds, beans, chickpea, soybeans and cereals in your diet. Doctors suggest that you consume around 12 mg of iron daily. You also need protein because that's what strengthens your hair. Include complete proteins which are also rich in amino acids: like cheese, milk, soy, lentils, peas, quinoa and yogurt.

Now onto the fun part: Actually, cleaning your hair.

Using shampoo. A hair wash is so much more than just cleaning our hair, it is like therapy for all us. It seems almost impossible to think that there are right and wrong ways of doing it. If you have dry hair or have hair fall or even dandruff, it is best to use a shampoo product that has coconut milk in it. Coconut milk helps your hair in a million ways. It has a lot of vitamins and minerals that can help your hair and scalp be healthy. The most important thing for using shampoo, is mixing it with warm water. Avoid using shampoo directly on your scalp, instead mix it with some water. This will ensure that the shampoo spread evenly throughout your scalp. Secondly, you end up using much lesser shampoo than you would have you applied it directly.

Conditioning your hair. Shampooing removes dirt and oil from the hair, but it can leave the hair rough, frizzy, and unmanageable. Using conditioner after cleansing with shampoo is thought to help this issue. Conditioners have fatty alcohols, humectants, and oils to make hair soft and flexible. Some have protein to temporarily bind split ends, and some have thickening agents to make hair feel fuller. When selecting a conditioner, it’s most important to pick the right kind for your hair and skin type. Different formulations offer different benefits and have difference potential side effects. After shampooing your hair, use the amount of conditioner recommended on the bottle it is usually about the size of a quarter. Spread it evenly on the ends of your hair. For long hair, spread it from chin level and down. Don’t apply conditioner to your scalp. Run your fingers or a wide-tooth comb through the ends of your hair to work in the conditioner. Let it stay on your hair for a moment, following instructions on the label. This is typically 1 minute. Thoroughly rinse off the conditioner.

Styling your hair. After washing your hair, it is still important to style it the way you want it to. Just make sure to squeeze out the excess water out of your hair before doing so. Use a wide-toothed comb and run it through your wet hair to remove tangles. And unlike how you normally comb your hair from top to bottom, start in reverse. This way you will tackle your knots more easily, and will avoid making your hair more tangled. While styling your hair, ensure that you apply a heat protecting serum before you use a blow dryer or curling/straightening iron. This will help you retain the moisture while also giving you the style you want.
